Decomposition - this is a fascinating look into the depths of a tortured woman's mind. The basic premise is as simple as it is bizarre - our lovely heroine kills her current flame. She goes in search of the old lover that she had left behind - one that she just skipped out on many years ago.

While this isn't the type of book I normally read, it was very entertaining. I'm not sure which genre you would want to define this under - it was a mind fuck, disturbing, unsettling, and intriguing. Literary fiction, perhaps. Anyway, back to the book!

It's told through the first person view of this woman. The general theme is, obviously, Decomposition. I'm also sure that there's plenty of literary allusion that I completely missed (I'm not good at picking that kind of thing up).

You join our poor narrator on a road trip. She has the dead body of her old boyfriend Jack in the trunk. She also has Hurricane Katrina to worry about. Her goal? To get to her last boyfriend - the one that treated her right, that would make everything in her life alright again. The problem? She's going nuts.

Nuts is probably a very mild term for it. You can feel yourself sliding into her dementia as Jack's body wastes away into nothingness. A normal person would have dumped off the body, figured out what they were doing, and leaving that mess behind in the destructive hurricane. At the same time, a sane person wouldn't have killed their boyfriend.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic for me, but like I said, this isn't exactly the type of book I normally read. I just didn't feel much closure as it winded down. Maybe that's the point, though. All in all, it was a very entertaining, very disturbing read.
